Little Benny Street Naming

LOCATION: Little Benny’s street naming will be the alleyway off of 11th Street NW between U and T Streets in proximity to the Masonic Temple where Harley spent time perfecting his craft with bands including [lastfm]Rare Essence[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Little Benny and the Masters[/lastfm]. Harley will be in good company as a street was named last year for “Godfather of Go-Go” [lastfm]Chuck Brown[/lastfm] at 7th and T Streets, N.W, which is also in Councilman Graham’s ward.
Harley, who is best known for his songs “Cat in the Hat” and “Who Comes to Boogie”, was a Washington, DC native and alumni of Ballou Senior High in Southeast. He passed away in his sleep at his brother’s home after a performance on May 30, 2010 at the Capitol Heights Ballroom with Chuck Brown.
