Former Illinois State Trooper Matt Mitchell is looking to receive workers’ compensation for an accident he was involved in back in November in which his leg was severely injured. Sounds innocent, right?! Wrong!!!
The accident that Mitchell was involved in was caused by him. While he was texting and driving at 126 mph he slammed into a vehicle that occupied sisters, Kelli and Jessica Uhl. The sad part about this whole thing is that the two sisters lost their lives.
Now, let’s go back to the focus of this whole story. He wants workers’ compensation!!!
Let’s not forget this man only received 30 months’ probation for the incident, was suspended with pay for nearly two years, drawing his $68,000 annual salary, before resigning from the Illinois State Police after pleading guilty to the criminal charges.
Mitchell did plead guilty to causing the accident and was convicted of reckless homicide and reckless driving, three lawyers agree that he can still receive a worker’s compensation award if it is proven that Mitchell was doing his job as a state trooper when the accident occurred. Like if he was on a high speed chase or something like that.
It has been reported that Mitchell was responding to an accident, but help already was at the scene of the accident where Mitchell was responding.
Sounds like some laws need to be changed. He did no jail time?!
