Style Stealer: Channel Your Inner Barbie Like Nicki Minaj
There’s no denying that Nicki Minaj has acquired a cult following – they call themselves “Barbies.” Her debut album, Pink Friday, had the highest selling week for a female in the hip-hop game EVER. The album entered the Billboard 200 at #2, just behind Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Although there is no duplicating the one and only Mistress of the Mixtape, all of us little Barbies can still dress like her. Check out this affordable style guide on how to dress like Nicki!
Whoever said that blonds have more fun clearly never had pink hair. That’s where the fun is at! Not ready to don a full-on neon pink wig? You can still get your Barbie on with some clip-in hair extensions, similar to Nicki’s look for the 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards. You can get these extensions at Hot Topic – a 2 pack for only $5.99. Tip: Clip your hair back and separate the chunk of hair underneath where you want the extension. Back-comb it at the root and spray it with hairspray before clipping in the extension. Teasing and hair-spraying at the root will knot the hair up a little so the clip won’t slip out while you’re whipping your hair back and forth.
My favorite punk throwback. I own these American Apparel leggings and they are awesome. You can get them at Dr. Jay’s for $27.99 or if you want to save some money, use any pair of black cotton-spandex leggings you already own and cut them up yourself. We may not all have the um…ASSets that Nicki has, but anyone can rock a pair of sexy black leggings. The more slits, the better. That’s what I always say.
No Barbie is complete without her Barbie nameplate necklace. Nicki Minaj’s was custom made and given to her as a birthday gift, but you can play Queen Barbie with this hot pink version from Urban Dollhouse for $24.99. It’s laser cut acrylic, about 10cm wide and will match perfectly with your new pink hair. Watch the Queen conquer.
What girl doesn’t love shoes? I’m addicted to them. Ladies, if we can dance all night long while towering on top of sky-high stilettos, we can do anything. These sexy Steve Madden platforms are rockin’ a suede finish, a 5 inch heel, and that perfect shade of blue – just like Nicki’s. They might be a little pricey for some at $99.95, but so worth the investment! They’re actually comfortable and durable, so they’ll last you a long time. Besides, every chick needs
twenty one pair of killer heels.
So we’re all in love with Nicki’s cream colored jumper that she wore to the MTV Video Music Awards. Jumpers are super hot right now and totally wearable. I found this jumpsuit from Guess by Marciano for only $80. It comes in black and purple and is silky as hell. Literally feels like you’re wearing silk pajamas. Perfect for New Year’s Eve and the deep cut neckline will allow you to show off your new Barbie nameplate!
The only thing better than super sexy stilettos? Super sexy boots. Lace-up and military inspired boots were all over the runways this year and ALDO created this affordable version in sleek black leather. These knee-high knockouts have a 2.5 inch heel and are on sale for $120. They’ll look amazing with your cut-up black leggings but look just as good with jeans or a cute dress. Another totally worthwhile investment…but I say that about all my shoes.

Now all you have to do is climb into your Barbie Jeep and ride off into the sunset with Ken. Thanks for the inspiration, Nicki!
