Black History Month Fast Facts: Nelson Mandela

All month long in February, we’re celebrating Black History Month! Nelson Mandela is a great inspiration to so many African Americans and people around the world!

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. Nelson Mandela served as the President of South Africa from 1994 through 1999. In 1962, Nelson Mandela was arrested and later convicted of sabotage and various crimes. His conviction of the crimes landed him a sentence of life in prison. After serving 27 years in prison Mandela was freed and became President and led his party in negotiations that led to democracy for multi races. Nelson Mandela went on to win 250 awards for his efforts and being rewarded the Nobel Peace Prize!
