Graffiti DC poetry Slam Series Finale
If you missed out on the Graffiti DC’s Poetry Slam Finale, you missed a mental blow out of beauty, love and the most creative show of linguistic descriptions ever heard in the DMV……
Its been eight months and from the first slam to the last it has been fantastic. I was in attendance for only the first and the last and it was worth the trip down from NYC. It was a pretty tough competition thus far filled with lots of high emotion. Whether you won or not I loved the ambiance of love in LIV Nightclub as each contestant threw their hearts out on the stage. So on that night where it was the last chance to compete for the title of “2010-2011 Graffiti DC Slam Champion” and the $2000 grand prize! The line up of artist in Spoken Words were , 13 of Nazareth , Joseph LMS Green, ItsReaLight, Gray the Poet, Epidemic, Kane Mayfield, Megan Rickman, and Jinahie.
But there is no Grafitti DC event without its members who performed through out the night Ya Ya, Pages, Rasheed Copeland and Drew Law. Fuze who were one of the sponsors for the event had an interesting and delightful concoction they made and giveaways.
After hearing poems about past lovers, terrible exes, a war trodden father, pain in the black community a winner emerged in the end. Jinahie took home the grand prize, the trophy and the bragging rights until the next slam series begins again. In my eyes everyone was a winner for laying out the amount of emotion and fervor they did that night. It really was a sight to see in LIV Nightclub. Check out the video below to see how it all went down and to hear some of Jinahie’s winning words.
There are also a few pics of the contestants , sponsors and celeb judges.
I would also like to give a special shout out to BBE entertainment, Beny Blaq , Nyasha Chikwore , Mercy Chikwore, The Chairmans Board, Dee and everyone at Fuze i look forward to seeing some more of the DMV’s own Artist hit the stage again soon!!!
