From underground to above ground – he’s made his own buzz, he’s even got MTV keeping an eye on his success. The DMV’s own performed out in NYC and talks about his mixtape

It was a chill Saturday on the Lower East side of Manhattan when I went to the Rocksmith NYC store to preview Black Cobain‘s mixtape, Young, Gifted and Black. When I got there, it felt like i was in a party in the DMV ! I could barely fit into the store. Fans as far as the eye could see from all over New York, it was good to see people from the D.M.V. up here in new York

They had a second half  at the Samsung Experience store in Columbus Circle (huge mall in Manhattan) Also the same area where fashion week is held. Black Cobain performed a few tracks “Cook Up” with Stalley and Wale ,”I’m Cold”, “Curious”, and of course everyone’s favorite “4am” with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Wale[/lastfm].

Black Cobain is a part of Wale’s company, Board of Administration, who are also currently pushing Tiara Thomas (she sings “The Cloud” with Wale) a phenomenal young woman who sings/writes and plays the guitar. Nonetheless they have a roster of young, raw talent and Black Cobain is just the first of many to get some much deserved buzz.

I got a chance to talk to the Virginia native (2 up 2 down!), about his name (Nirvana reference!), Aretha Franklin  , Higher Learning and his mixtape Young, Gifted and Black. Watch below!

We were even thrown out of the first area where we were taking video, so we tried to finish it in another spot. I guess the mall cop had a low jack on us, because he followed us wherever we went.
