On Friday, Steven Cephas from D.C. was sentenced by D.C. Superior Court Judge William M. Jackson to 15 years in prison for severely beating and murdering his then girlfriend’s 20 month-old son while she was at work. On Nov. 8 2010 Cephas became angered when the toddler, Dominic Kingsbury Jr. awoke and proceeded to beat and throw the boy against the wall causing  blunt force injuries, hemorrhages, lacerations of the intestine and liver, and spinal cord contusions according to the autopsy report. Many of Dominic’s family members were present during the proceedings including his grandmother who questioned Cephas as to why did he kill her grandson. Steven Cephas pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was ordered to serve 15 years after the seven years he was already serving for a probation violation.
