Family members report that 14-year-old Joshua Smith shot and killed his mother, 36-year-old Tamiko Robinson, while she was asleep on the couch. His reason? Robinson was trying to keep him from participating in a gang.
“He just shot. Every chance he got a chance to shoot again, he shot again, and there’s just buckshot, holes everywhere. He murdered her, and he didn’t do it with sorrow or [anything]. He did it like he wanted to do it, like he meant to do it and he [knew] what he was doing,” LeShaun Roberts, the victim’s brother, told My Fox Detroit.
The family member explained the murder happened after midnight. He said the 14-year-old student was furious because his mother wanted to keep him off the streets, away from a gang.
“He just want to hang with the big boys. He joined a gang. He’s 6’1″ [or] 6’2″, 14 years old, hanging around with 20-year-olds. So, he wanted to be a big boy and his mama told him he couldn’t. He ran away.”
Nonetheless, Robinson “caught up with her son and insisted he come home,” a motherly act that reportedly led to her death.
“He broke into his step dad’s room, got a twelve gauge and brutally murdered my sister,” Roberts tell us. “He shot at least ten times.”
Robinson’s fiancé and five-year-old daughter were inside the house at the time of the shooting. They jumped through a window to escape the gunfire.
My Fox DC reports that Smith was arrested a soon after. The police caught the 14-year-old Kettering High School student driving around in his dead mother’s car.
The mother was a dialysis patient, and was battling lupus while she was alive. Her five-year-old daughter witnessed the brutal murder and is constantly asking relatives, “why would someone want to hurt mommy?”
