Ryan Leslie has a new album-release plan. The Next Selection singer announced that he will be distributing his new set, Les Is More, with an app.
“Being forward, my album will be released in a form of a mobile application,” he told France’s Booska-P. “I do believe the future is mobile… We’re creating an application, a curated environment for people to be able to play the videos and listen to the music and have that experience right there in their mobile handset.”
The Harvard alum and production wonderkind has built a following through social media, breaking out on Youtube with clips from his studio sessions. In 2006, his internet savvy helped launch the career of singer Cassie, who was signed to his Next Selection imprint.
Leslie also talked about re-connecting with former protege.
“We have definitely talked about doing some collaborations,” he said. “She’s been finding herself as an artist. When she first came out with me I gave her her identity… As someone who brought her into the game, I’m interested in hearing, with her new body of work, who she has determined she is as an artist. At that point I can come in and we can collaborate again.”
In March, Leslie announced that he would be dropping his third studio album Less Is More on June 5. He has since released four videos for the long-delayed album, including the most recent “5 Minute Freshen Up,” which can be seen at the singer’s website.
