Yesterday New York City’s Hot 97 held their annual Summer Jam concert with major hip hop artists performing including Nas, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, ASAP Rocky, Maino and a list of other top acts. The headliner of the show was none other than Queens, New York’s own superstar rapper Nicki Minaj.
That was until Hot 97’s morning show jock Peter Rosenberg put his foot in his own mouth and dissed the headlining act of the show. As reported by The YBF, host Peter Rosenberg went onstage and said, “she better not perform that “wack a** Starships” track, We about that real hip-hop, not ‘Starships” referring to Nicki’s hit single “Starships”.
YMCMB CEO Lil Wayne fired back through twitter by canceling all Young Money artists from performing at Hot 97’s Summer Jam, including the headliner Nicki Minaj. Lil Wayne’s twitter read, “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.” Nicki who was excited about performing, tweeted in response,” I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes.”
Nicki Minaj confirmed other superstars were planning to join her onstage, including Drake, Tyga, 2 Chainz, Beenie Man and MC Foxy Brown. Nicki Minaj retweeted some her fans disappointed reactions to the announcement of her not performing.
Hot 97’s Funk Master Flex chimed in and supported Peter Rosenburg stating,”We aint f**king with commercial rappers no more,” he told the audience of 50,000 plus in New Jersey. “If you lost the f**king streets it’s your fault! If you don’t go gold it’s your fault! I’m dedicated to tearing you down. F**k with me! We’re gonna show you mama. You think you didn’t sell any records this time?”
Peter Rosenburg stood his ground by tweeting, “last night i said nothing different than I have ever said…its not a personal dis…it was starships is s**t..WHICH WE ALL KNOW IS TRUE”
