Odd Future‘s R&B singer Frank Ocean may be ready for his solo close-up. The Def Jam artist has finally revealed the title and date for his upcoming album which is tentatively being called Channel Orange.
In a teaser video released on Tumblr Thursday (June 8) night, a new track plays in the background, presumably from his forthcoming album. At the end of the clip, a date appears: July 17th. Apparently, the mysterious clip is to promote his album release date.
July is so far gearing up to be a huge month for Def Jam. Nas is set to drop his eagerly anticipated 10th studio project Life Is Good on the same date as Ocean’s Channel Orange. And budding label mogul Rick Ross will also be unleashing his fifth album, God Forgives, I Don’t, on July 31st.
Ocean has written songs for Justin Bieber, John Legend, Brandy, and Beyoncé Knowles. The wait for Ocean’s solo major label debut has been bubbling ever since he dropped his acclaimed 2011 mixtape Nostalgia, ULTRA. His appearance on two Throne (Jay-Z and Kanye West) tracks, including the omnipresent single “No Church in the Wild,” further raised the profile for the singer-songwriter.
Outside of Ocean’s Channel Orange and his other Def Jam label mate’s releases, Chris Brown, Flo Rider, and Aesop Rock are all scheduled to release albums in July.
