Trae Tha Truth, Houston’s self proclaimed hip-hop “street king” was shot outside a strip club early Wednesday morning (June 19). Three people were killed and two others were wounded.
According to reports, people were leaving the after-hours spot at at around 3 a.m. when gunfire erupted. When police arrived, they found three dead, including one woman investigators say was an innocent bystander. Two other people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Trae, who is signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle crew, was also taken to the hospital where he was treated for his gunshot wound. A photographer connected to the H-Town MC tweeted an update: “Everybody TRAE is ok. Minor gunshot wound.” The tweet was accompanied by a photo showing Trae wearing a hospital gown and smiling.
Mike Slaughter, who helped promote the concert, said he was just leaving the club as the shots were fired.
“It sounded like 50 shots,” he said. “People were ducking down. It was fast.”
Slaughter, whose white T-shirt, socks and fingernails were covered in blood, said he tried to help his friend who was bleeding from the mouth.
“I don’t know who did this at this point,” Homicide investigator Kevin Carr said. “The girl that was walking through the parking lot, she was completely innocent.”
A police spokesperson said authorities are investigating whether the shooting was connected to another incident on Father’s Day or possibly another incident that happened at a club in November.—Keith Murphy, CBS Local
