Rick Ross dropped a new single for his forthcoming album God Forgives, I Don’t, on Monday (July 2). The Maybach Music boss uses the song to track a hustler’s ambition.
“Hold Me Back” is a raw and unapologetic record on which Ross delivers a tale from the perspective of a street hustler who rises through the ranks. The hard-charging chorus jumps off the record with an aggressive refrain: “These n****s won’t hold me back/ These n****s won’t hold me back…”
Ross released the song to the net the day after his Mayback Music Group hit the stage to perform at Sunday night’s BET Awards. His show featured Meek Mill as well as Wale, who took home the award for best collaboration for “Lotus Flower Bomb,” with Miguel.
Ross talked with DJ Flexx backstage at the 2012 BET Awards, where he talked about the new album, and signing Omarion to Maybach music.
“Hold Me Back” is the latest in a string of music the Bawse has dropped in anticipation to his God Forgives, I Don’t set, which includes “Touch’N You” and “So Sophisticated.”
God Forgives, I Don’t will hit stores July 31. Listen to “Hold Me Back” here.
