Lil Wayne is making the R&B rounds. The YMCMB general has added his sizable rhyme skills to high profile singles by Keyshia Cole and Kelly Rowland Monday (July 2). Stylistically, the songs could not be any more different.
On Cole’s traditional soulful mid-tempo track “Enough of No Love,” a no-nonsense Cole is looking at the front door and is ready to dump her cheating boyfriend. But Weezy, who is rumored to be featured in Cole’s recently shot clip for the heartbreaking song, wants to keep the relationship alive.
“You say it’s over, but you still fussing/ You just clumsy, always tripping over nothing,” Wayne says on the heartfelt track, adding, “I told you if you ride or die then I’ll be your seatbelt…”
But on Rowland’s sexy, hip-hop fueled cut “Ice,” Lil Wayne is in vintage bad boy form. The song, a sequel of sorts to Rowland’s hit “Motivation,” finds the former Destiny’s Child member singing provocatively, cooing over her significant other for some alone time. And Wayne agrees.
“We do it ’til we both exhausted/ Twin pipes,” he raps. Fans of all three acts can expect more from Cole, Rowland and Wayne. In addition to working on her upcoming album Woman To Woman, Keyshia Cole is set to star in the six-episode BET reality series Keyshia & Daniel: Family First, due up October 9. The show will showcase the relationship of Cole and husband/NBA guard Daniel Gibson.
Kelly Rowland, a former judge on the highly rated X Factor U.K. singing competition, has signed on to be a team leader on the Australian TV talent contest Everybody Dance Now. The show is set to premiere later this year. And Lil Wayne is finishing up work on his next studio album I Am Not a Human Being II, a work that Cash Money label head Birdman calls, “A perfect work of art.”
“It’s something totally different from Wayne,” Birdman told MTV News of the release, due out later this year. “Really, for me, I’m a fan of him, but he really goes so hard in so many different ways, it’s like magic for me to watch him put his mindset together.” —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
