Jay-Z has demonstrated his commercial rap cred in recent days. Monday (July 30), he showcased yet another ad, which also serves as an announcement. This time the message is he is executive producing the popular NBA 2K13 video game. 

Jay-Z and NBA 2K broke the news of his involvement with a video spot posted on Jay-Z’s LifeAndTimes site. And they recruit basketball legend Michael Jordan to make it official. 

“A champion never rests, never settles,” Jordan says, as Jay-Z’s “Public Service Announcement,” from the Black Album, plays. ”So we didn’t,” Jordan continues. “NBA 2K13, executive-produced by Jay-Z”

On Friday (July 28), Jay dropped a commercial for his Made In America festival, which he will headline with Pearl Jam in Philadelphia. The festival is sponsored by Budweiser and Jay offers a voiceover for the video, waxing poetic about the beauty of cultural exchange.  

Also last week, Jay-Z included wife Beyonce in his commercial run. In an ad for Duracell Powermat, in which he is an investor, Jigga shows his ringing phone, with “B” as the caller. Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” plays throughout and Jigga ends with the tagline: “Never be powerless.” See video below.   –E. Parker, CBS Local
