Faith Evans‘ new album R&B Divas hit stands Tuesday (October 2). As a companion to the reality TV show of the same name, the album features a wide range or soulful voices.
“I liken it to Waiting To Exhale,” she told CBS Local, referencing the popular 1995 soundtrack album. “It’s almost the soundtrack to the triumphs of what you know of the show and beyond.”
The album features the cast of R&B Divas TV show including Nicci Gilbert, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt, as well as Fantasia and Kelly Price. Despite her history as a solo artist, Faith found that more voices made for a merry sound.
“In the session for ‘Loving Me,’ the theme song to R&B Divas, we were like, ‘Let’s try to get in there like they did back in the day, all go in there and sing,” Faith recalled. “The engineer was like you can’t just do that. But we did it anyway and it actually sounded good. [When we started] we were like, “We don’t want to start this super group thing. But when we got in there not only did we sound good together but it was actually a lot of fun.”
The procedes from the album will go to Whitney Houston Academy in East Orange NJ. —E. Parker, CBS Local
