Janet Jackson has a bone to pick with Vanity Fair.
The singer recently sent a letter to the magazine’s editor Graydon Carter over a story published in the November issue of the magazine that takes an excerpt from Randall Sullivan’s upcoming book, Untouchable: The Strange Life and Tragic Death of Michael Jackson.
In the excerpt, Sullivan claims Janet postponed her brother Michael’s funeral until her $40,000 deposit to secure a plot for him at Forest Lawn Memorial Park was repaid.
In the letter, which the singer posted on her website, Janet’s lawyer, Blair Brown refutes the story’s claims and asks the Editor-in-Chief to “retract the statements relating to Janet Jackson.”
Brown writes that the article “makes statements about Ms. Jackson that have no basis in fact and are highly damaging to Ms. Jackson’s reputation.”
The lawyer also counters the claims that Janet postponed the burial.
“Ms. Jackson never delated the funeral in any way. In fact, she paid for the funeral and was reimbursed by some of those expenses by Michael Jackson’s estate in the year after the services took place,” she wrote.
Brown also asks the magazine to not only retract the statements, but demand Vanity Fair contact other media outlets that have re-published the false statement like the Huffington Post, The Daily Mail in the UK and The New York Daily News to “inform them of its retraction and its corrective statement.”
The magazine has yet to respond to Janet’s letter.
