Kendrick Lamar isn’t the only freshmen who can move big units. Meek Mill is also on track to log huge first-week sales.

According to Hits Daily Double, the Maybach Music Group rapper’s freshman release Dreams & Nightmares is projected to move between 175,00-200,000 units. The number is especially impressive considering the Philadelphia MC is dropping his buzz-heavy set amid the destructive aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, which accounts for a huge segment of his fanbase.

For Meek, a protégé of rap heavyweight Rick Ross, the success of Dreams & Nightmares was propelled by a string of hit singles that have taken the mixtape rapper from underground favorite to budding rhyme star. Such omnipresent tracks as “I’m A Boss,” “Amen” and “House Party” have become radio favorites for the newcomer.

Meek’s latest single “Young & Gettin’ It,” featuring Kirko Bangz, is being supported by a new video directed by DRE Films.

Meek’s projected big debut comes on the heels of huge first-week sales for Kendrick Lamar, another rapper who dropped his first official set. Lamar’s critically-acclaimed Good Kid, m.A.A.d city debuted at no. 2 on SoundScan chart, pushing 240,000 copies.—Keith Murphy, CBS Local
