The Tupac biopic that was announced in 2010, and has since dropped off the radar, is still in the works. Director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), who has signed on for the project, recently breathed new life into the film.
Fuqua said the film is on track but he only needs to workout the screenplay.
“It was announced too soon,” Fuqua told The Playlist. “I have a deal for Tupac, but the script is not there yet, and it’s being worked on. Somehow someone started talking about it, it got out there and went crazy, but it was always a situation of, let’s make sure we have a great script, and get it right.”
The movie will not follow ‘Pac’s entire life story but the time surround his death and “the last few days, that trip from LA to Vegas, and where his head was during that journey.”
Fuqua is also working to bring the elusive Miles Davis biopic to the big screen, which has a soundtracked by Herbie Hancock attached. While Don Cheadle is the frontrunner to play the jazz luminary, Fuqua said they are still trying to find the funding. “We’re trying to figure out where the money’s coming from,” he said.
