Tupac Shakur’s Mom Sues Death Row for $1.1 Million and Unreleased Recordings

Back in February of this year, the late rapper Tupac Shakur‘s mother, Afeni Shakur, vowed “to make sure that Tupac’s entire body of work is made available for his fans.” Now she’s suing her son’s former record label, Death Row, in that very pursuit.

According to Billboard, Ms. Shakur filed a lawsuit this week (Sept. 25) in L.A. Superior Court against Entertainment One, the Canadian company that purchased the Death Row catalog, seeking $1.1 million in unpaid royalties and all master recordings of the rapper’s unreleased material.

At the root of the lawsuit is a 1997 settlement between the Shakur estate and Suge Knight‘s Death Row that gave the ownership of the rapper’s unfinished music to Shakur outside of one album’s worth of music, as well as any royalties generated from all Tupac record sales.
