If I told you an NFL player was blasting Taylor Swift to get hyped before a game, you’d probably think I was full of it. The same could be said about Miley Cyrus and Carly Rae Jepson finding their way into the rotation, no doubt.
But nay sayers can’t say nay in this case.
Washington Redskins fullback Darrel Young is having a career-best year and perhaps it’s due to the pop tarts on his iPod.
In speaking with Young at Redskins Park this week, he revealed (or re-revealed) his penchant for pop music as he proudly boasted of having Ms. “Wrecking Ball” in the mix.
But was he joking?
“I’m dead serious by the way,” he said.
The rest of his iPod revealed an eclectic taste in music that skewed far from “Call Me Maybe.”
Also queued up are Jay Z, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, and Lil’ Wayne among others.
When asked for his ultimate hype song Young didn’t hesitate.
“‘Renegade’ by Jay Z,” he told me. “That’s my song.”
All will seriously be in rotation tonight as Young and the Redskins prepare to play the San Francisco 49ers under the national spotlight on Monday Night Football.
