Best Concerts Coming To The DMV In 2014
New year, new concerts! As concert season quickly encroaches upon the DMV, many people are left with a major decision: “who should I spend my money to see this year?” Thankfully, we’ve compiled a list of the best shows coming to town so you can plan accordingly.
January 16, 2014 – Jay Z (Magna Carter World Tour)
One of the biggest shows to kick off the year, Jay Z brings his massive Magna Carter World Tour to D.C. on January 16. This is HOV’s first solo tour in four years, after just finishing up a stadium gig with Justin Timberlake in mid-2013. In support of his twelfth studio album, the four month tour will feature Jay Z performing a massive slew of his hits with support performances from Timbaland.
January 22, 2014 – Waka Flocka Flame
While Waka Flocka Flame just concluded his winter 2013 tour with Steve Aoki, the rapper decided to hit the road solo this time playing smaller clubs throughout the country. Just this past year it was announced that Waka Flocka will release a rap/EDM inspired album after touring with Aoki, which will include samples from Diplo, Flosstradamus and Skrillex.
January 30, 2014 – J.Cole (What Dreams May Come Tour)
DAR Constitution Hall
While J.Cole spent much of 2013 on the road, he extended his What Dreams May Come Tour into 2014 with only 10 additional dates. Of those 10, seven are scheduled for Canada while only three will make the U.S.: NYC, D.C. and Mashantucket, Conn. J.Cole’s latest album Born Sinner sold nearly 300,000 copies its first week, just 30,000 short of matching Kanye West’s Yeezus album release the same day.
February 14, 2014 – Kanye West (Yeezus Tour)
If finding that perfect gift for your significant other is stumping you, here’s a suggestion. Kanye West is descending on Baltimore on the day of love, Valentine’s Day! Doesn’t your boyfriend/girlfriend deserve some tickets? Though he wrapped up part one of his Yeezus Tour in 2013, West admitted this week they’ve extended the tour into the New Year for only nine dates. Beginning February 13 in Pennsylvania, the tour wraps up a mere 10 days later. According to Live Nation, no support acts will be on this tour.
February 24, 2014 – Justin Timberlake (The 20/20 Experience Tour)
It’s been a crazy 12 months for Justin Timberlake! The singer jumped back into the music scene in March 2013 and has since released two albums, sold out a stadium tour with Jay Z, embarked on his own solo tour at the end of 2013 and added a second leg of tour dates well into 2014. It’s safe to say he’s loving life. Not only that, but with a marriage under his belt and countless awards won, Timberlake is a hard man to beat musically.
February 27, 2014 – Robin Thicke
With the song of the summer under his belt, Robin Thicke has really made a name for himself in the world. His hit single “Blurred Lines” held 12 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and his infamous performance on the MTV Video Music Awards with Miley Cyrus will go down in history next to that famous Madonna/Christina Aguilera/Britney Spears kiss. Only performing 15 dates on this tour run, his third stop will be in Fairfax at the Patriot Center and will include openers Jessie J and DJ Cassidy.
March 2, 2014 – Demi Lovato (Neon Lights Tour)
Now that Demi Lovato has found clarity and health after a brief stint in rehab for an eating disorder, she is setting her sights on the road this spring for her Neon Lights tour. With help from British band Little Mix and X-Factor brainchild Fifth Harmony, Lovato’s nearly sold out tour is one that the preteens are begging their parents to see. The show will be at the Patriot Center and very few tickets are left.
March 7, 2014 – Lorde
Tickets (Sold Out)
When 17-year-old Lorde hit the music scene, no one really knew where she came from but her catchy hit “Royals” was an earworm no one could forget. The New Zealand singer made history when she became the first female singer to top the Billboard Alternatives chart in 17 years, giving her major credit in the music industry. She has since hit the road to tour, selling out most of the dates. If you managed to snag a ticket to this one, you’re lucky! It’s sold out.
April 10, 2014 – Miley Cyrus (Bangerz Tour)
From twerking to licking sledgehammers and riding around naked on wrecking balls, Miley Cyrus made quite the name for herself this year. As one of the most talked about celebrities of 2013, it’s not surprising fans are flocked to see her live on tour. Hopefully she leaves the plastic, nude colored bikini at home this time.
July 18, 2014 – Fall Out Boy & Paramore (MonumenTour)
Merriweather Post Pavilion
Two pop punk bands merge as one in this co-headlining tour featuring Fall Out Boy and Paramore. The MonumenTour will hit 34 cities this summer to promote both band’s new albums. The tour will feature support from New Politics, who toured with Fall Out Boy in the past.
