3 Finalists Chosen for Chuck Brown Memorial Park Project
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Three proposals for art installations honoring the Godfather of Go-Go are in the running to be featured in D.C.’s Chuck Brown Memorial Park.
Jackie L. Braitman and Charles Bergen, local artists, and Vinnie Bagwell, who is based out of New York, presented their ideas to the city’s Commission on the Arts and Humanities last week.
Once an artist is chosen, the city will provide them with a $325,500 budget to bring their proposal to life. A winner won’t be announced until March or April, according to project manager Keona Pearson.
In August, Mayor Vincent C. Gray joined Brown’s family and other government officials in Ward 5 to break ground for the park. The installation will be placed in the highlighted triangle in this rendering of the park site:
