GRAMMY Award-winning artist Lorde has been announced as headliner for Baltimore’s Preakness infield concert on May 17, 2014.
The Pimlico Race Course released information early Thursday that the 17-year-old breakout star will perform an extended set at the Baltimore track in support of the 139th Preakness Stakes. Past headliners include Bruno Mars, Maroon 5 and GRAMMY Award winners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
Lorde became a household name in the music world with her breakout hit “Royals,” spending nine-weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. She is the youngest artist to reach the top of the charts since Tiffany in 1987.
The Preakness InfieldFest will open at 8 a.m. on May 17 and tickets are available now.
Even Marion Barry, Jr., current Councilmember for Ward 8 and former Mayor of Washington, D.C., has an appreciation for the New Zealand singer. He requested the DJ Dyn-O-Might go-go version of her song, “Royals,” this morning in WPGC.
The song played less than 20 minutes later.
