The First Lady of the United States and mother-of-two has some advice for Justin Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette: “pull him close.”
“I don’t know if it would be advice as much as action,” she said, continuing, “I would be very present in his life right now. And I would be probably with him a good chunk of the time, just there to talk, to figure out what’s going on in his head, to figure out who’s in his life and who’s not, you know.”
The First Lady reassures Mallette in the interview that Bieber is still a kid who’s growing up. The singer will turn 20 on March 1, but has spent the last eight years of his life in a spotlight.
She also notes that her own daughters, Natasha and Malia, just want their parents near them and seek parental advice often. “They want to see you on a daily basis,” she reaffirms to Enrique Santos and Luisa Fernanda on “Mix Nueve Ocho.”
Mallette has come to Bieber’s defense in the wake of his latest legal struggles, asking his fans to support him and not condemn him. “If Justin’s struggling, don’t kick him when he’s down or condemn him — pray for him,” she says to The Sun.
Bieber’s Valentine’s Day hearing has been canceled after his lawyer filed a not-guilty plea to the charges of DUI and drag racing in Miami, Fla. His new trial date is set for March 3.
