LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — The Prince George’s County fire/EMS department in Maryland is helping to rescue a horse that has been trapped in a barn by snow.

Authorities responded to the 9900 block of Old Ardwick-Ardmore Road in Springdale around 10 a.m.

A horse at the address had become sick or injured and required emergency veterinary services. It had become so exhausted from trying to free itself from the deep snow that it collapsed.

Firefighters assisted in accessing the horse by setting up a rigging system to lift it up. Experts on the scene tell emergency responders that it is not good for a sick horse to be laying down for an extended period of time.

There is now a vet on the scene treating the animal.
