Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, never planned on releasing the track “What Kind of Love,” a castoff from his most recent album, Because The Internet. But after someone else did it–without his permission, he’s like to make clear–he decided, what the heck.
“i saw that someone is selling this on iTunes,” Glover wrote on Soundcloud. “i gave this away for free since it’s incomplete and a rough. thought it was wack someone did that without my permission. so i put it up here.”
The version he released is definitely raw and clearly unfinished. It even features a slight technical mistake, a screeching noise, which he quietly apologizes for. But all of this helps play up Glovers heartbroken croon that questions love and what it should be over a gentle strum.
