Naomi Campbell was interviewed on Tuesday about her show “The Face” when the hosts asked her thoughts on the controversial cover. “What do you think of Kim and Kanye’s Vogue cover given that you have been on the cover yourself countless times,” asks the co-anchor via satellite to Campbell.
After a solid five-second pause, she smiles and adds a politically correct comment, “I do not want to comment.” Her smile told a different story, which prodded the hosts to dig deeper into the situation.
When asked “why” she busted out into a fit of giggles. Soon, she explained her reaction. “I’m a fashion model and I’ve been working for 28 years, and when you get a Vogue cover, it’s a build in your career…. a stepping stone to achieve that.”
Not satisfied with the answer, the host again asks “so you think Kim & Kanye haven’t earned the right to be on the cover of Vogue?” After a second, Campbell replies with a nondescript “those are your words.”
Last Friday, Kardashian revealed the wedding-themed cover via her Instagram showing her and her husband-to-be West donning bridal attire. The spread includes numerous pictures of the couple shopping for bridal gowns and holding baby North West. West is the fifth male to ever be featured on the cover of American Vogue.
The much-talked-about cover comes at a good time for Vogue, who has seen a significant dip in subscriptions with the uprising of the Internet and the dying medium of print.
