To kick off a two-week hip-hop festival, the National Symphony Orchestra will team up with Nas for two special performances to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Illmatic.
The One Mic: Hip-Hop Culture Worldwide Festival will feature over 20 free and paid events that will feature elements of hip-hop including beatboxing, b-boying, MCing, DJing and more.
From now until April 13, performers, professionals, fans and experts in hip-hop will host parties, panels and theater performances to showcase the long standing success of the hip-hop world including Nas’ performance with the NSO, a “Black Girls Rock!” event with MC Lyte and Lauryn Hill, “Faith, Hip-Hop and the Common Good” concert with Russell Simmons and an appearance by Grandmaster Flash.
There are also new graffiti murals being created in Washington, D.C. neighborhoods.
