It’s been a rocky friendship between August Alsina and Trey Songz. Even though the two share the track “I Luv This Sh**,” Alsina hasn’t been able to keep things in good proximity with his fellow rap star.
He’s gone as far as telling radio and TV not to ask him about the beef, which seems like an infinitely hard thing to do since they released a single together. Even though “106 & Park” co-host Keshia Chanté was warned beforehand not to ask Alsina about his relationship with Trey, she opened the flood gates and caused a backlash from the rapper.
On the April 15 episode, she asked if he would ever bury the hatchet with his ex-collaborator and as the camera zoomed in on Alsina’s face, he let it out.
“So, you just goin’ against the grain and go against everything that I just-,” he cuts off, before laying it on her. “I just told y’all not to ask me that s*** when I got up here.” She quickly tried to recover, explaining that his fans and girls want to know and now he had an opportunity to clear the air. He chose not to answer the question as co-host Bow Wow tried to salvage the moment by having Alsina introduce his new video, “Get Your Money.”
This isn’t the first time, or the last, that Alsina will be asked about the feud with Trey. During an interview in March, he gave a small glimpse into why he’s had so many issues with his counterpart. “We ain’t on the same page. He did some other s*** and we just don’t rock. Like I tell people all the time, show me that you’re this person on day one… You should always be that person,” he explains.
“We were supposed to have a show together and it just went left ’cause I can’t deal with n***s’ egos and attitudes ’cause I’m just a real n**** comin’ through and I’m rockin’.”
Alsina’s new album Testimony hit stores on April 15.
