Future‘s new album Honest won’t hit stores until April 22 but a few lucky WPGC listeners won the chance to hear it before anyone else.

During the exclusive listening party, Future sat down with Aladdin to talk about the album, his studio must-haves and why exactly his song with Nicki Minaj didn’t make the cut.

The promotional circuit has been brutal for the dad-to-be, taking on the radio circuit, hitting television shows, throwing baby showers and trying to spend time with his fiancé Ciara.  But even with the hard work and busy lifestyle, he’s managed to keep his music consistent.

One thing Future believes in is his ability to be true to himself and produce music that’s strictly him.

“I never know what’s going to be a radio-considered,” he says. “I just make records that I feel good about making.  It’s all of me… there’s nobody I’m trying to be.”

One of those records he feels confident in is one with fellow rapper Minaj.  After spending time writing, recording and mastering the track, it never made it to the album. But it wasn’t some dramatic falling out between the superstars, but strictly a legal issue.

“It was a clearance situation,” he admits. “I had used a melody from this old record from George Michael.  It wasn’t clearing it at the time.  By the time I could fix it and turn it around, it was too late.”  But fear not Future fans, the song will grace the world’s ears sometime in the future (no pun intended).
