It was a massive night for the Billboard Music Awards on May 18.  Justin Timberlake walked home with seven awards throughout the night, Robin Thicke debuted a love song for his wife on stage, oh… and Michael Jackson returned.  Well, sort of.

The award show, hosted by Birthday Bash artist Ludacris, handed out 19 awards throughout the night, including the Milestone Award (to Carrie Underwood) and the Icon Award (to Jennifer Lopez.)  Imagine Dragons raked up five awards for Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Artist.  The summer hit “Blurred Lines” earned four awards, including Top Radio Song and Top Hot 100 Song.

The night was full of rare performances including the use of hologram technology to bring Michael Jackson back to life.  The King of Pop performed “Slave to the Rhythm” with backup dancers and an elaborate stage set up.  Other performances included a satellite-streamed “Birthday” performance from Katy Perry, a Carrie Underwood/Miranda Lambert duet for “Somethin’ Bad” and a trippy rendition of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” from Miley CyrusOneRepublic played their last TV performance of “Counting Stars,” after Ryan Tedder admitted the song is being retired from their live TV repertoire.

On the country side, Luke Bryan performed his hit “Play it Again” and teamed up with Florida Georgia Line for a “This is How We Roll” duet.
