It’s been 17 years since Notorious B.I.G. was taken from the world way too soon but not a day goes by hip hop fans don’t remember his music and what he offered to the world.  While the Brooklyn-born rapper only debuted his first album three years before his death, he became one of the most prominent rappers in history.

On March 8, 1997, Biggie was fatally shot outside the 1997 Soul Train Music Awards.  While many conspiracy theorists have garnered several possibilities about his death, it still remains unsolved.

Now, 17 years later, the hip-hop world stops on May 21 to remember the rapper who took the world by storm and became a national icon during his short career.

Here are five of his biggest hits to keep you going on this day of remembrance.

5. “Big Poppa/Warning”

Less than a year into his career, this song earned Biggie a GRAMMY nomination.

4. “One More Chance/Stay With Me”

This song earned Biggie his first ever Billboard R&B/ Hip-Hop No. 1 and Hot 100 No. 2.

3. “Hypnotize”

This video was filmed just a month before his death.

2. “Been Around the World”

Puff Daddy has never been shy about the loss of his friend Biggie and appeared on several songs with him, including this one.

1. “Mo Money Mo Problems”

Truer words have never been spoken. When this song hit No. 1 on the charts, it pushed a tribute song to Biggie from the top spot.
