Reel Talk with Justine Love: ‘Maleficent’
The truth is revealed about the spell cast upon Sleeping Beauty in the new Disney hit Maleficent. Director Robert Stromberg has done an amazing job taking viewers into the dark side of the childhood treasure “Sleeping Beauty” with a spectacular storyline and great choice of actors.
Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) is a loving and caring Queen of the Fairies who is betrayed by a boy (Sharlto Copley) who she falls in love with. Soon, the plot thickens and the gentleness turns to bitterness.
The film is filled with mystical characters and some are sweet while some are scary. Be aware of this for kids under the age of 10.
The low part of the film was the casting of Aurora (Elle Fanning). She is certainly not as good as her sister Dakota Fanning. I personally think she was the saddest looking Sleeping Beauty.
This is great family movie, but of course it is, because it’s Disney. Still, remember little kids will be frighten by some of the characters and scenes.
I give this film five heartbeats. It’s a must-see.
See you at the concession stand!
