GRAMMY-nominated artist Mack Wilds talked with WPGC’s Tony Redz and Aladdin before the 2014 Birthday Bash at Howard Theatre. Mack was one of seven artists who took the stage for the annual show, this year honoring DJ Flexx and his 20 years on WPGC.
While he got his start on the small screen, most notably playing on HBO’s The Wire, Mack Wilds soon dove headfirst into the music scene. Signing in 2010, he spent the next four years working on his music and developing a name for himself in the hip-hop world.
Known as Tristan Wilds in the television circuit, he soon changed his stage name to Mack Wilds when music became his priority. “Mack is a family name, that’s the name that my friends and my family called me. It’s like one of those things like ‘Okay this music is about to be real personal, I want you guys to be part of my family.'”
And yes, ladies. He is single. But, he has a few stipulations if someone is seeking his heart: intelligence and the ability to be memorable.
Earlier this year, Wilds received his first GRAMMY nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album for New York: A Love Story.
