The-Dream‘s latest song “Black” might have started as a response to the Donald Sterling scandal, but its message has evolved into a universal one.

That hits especially hard in its video.

Set in Langa Township, South Africa, the uniting visual clip sees crooner Terius Nash surrounded by protests for global social issues like women’s rights, Occupy Wall Street, and classism as the new racism — a message that echoes Kanye West‘s “New Slaves”.

Despite all of the problems brought to light in the video, its tone remains positive. Lyrically, The-Dream even offers up a solution: “They say the right amount of love can heal us.”
