“We pay more than any other jurisdiction in the country for starting teachers,” said Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools Kaya Henderson on the Joe Clair Morning Show Wednesday.
Teachers with bachelor’s degrees earn $51,000 in their first year, and teachers with their master’s start at $55,000.
“If you want great talent, you gotta change the game.”
She also encourages teachers not to head to the ‘burbs. The average salary is higher in the District than in the surrounding jurisdictions, and “good” teachers also receive a bonus of up to $20,000 a year.
“It’s good to be a teacher in DCPS.”
