Beyoncé is an inspiration to many of her listeners, but one teenager took things to the next level when she borrowed the singer’s 2015 Met Gala look as inspiration for her prom dress.
Beyoncé’s gown that year was a Givenchy Haute Couture look that featured hundreds of hand-sewn crystals placed over a sheer nude fabric. India Ross recreated the bejeweled look, even styling her hair to match Beyoncé’s blonde ponytail. “Mesh material with over 2,000 hand-placed crystals was used to create my dress,” Ross told US Weekly. “I had a local designer, Toi Hall, create it with the assistance of her brother.” All in all, it cost Ross $800.
Although she’s gotten much attention for the dress, there have been haters as well. On Instagram, Ross posted a message directed at anyone who think she’s trying to be Beyoncé. “Let’s make this clear I do not think I’m Beyoncé but she’s my inspiration I think somebody is confused on a inspiration just because she has on a#Givenchy dress don’t mean I suppose to have a million dollar dress on I still look so god damn fine in my Walmart, eBay, Michaels, cheap looking #givenchy dress,” she wrote.
It’s no surprise that Beyoncé’s style ingenue will be pursuing a degree in fashion when she attends college in the fall. In the meantime, Ross is holding out hope that Beyoncé will get wind of what she’s done and send her the original dress to keep.
