Troy Ave Renames Mixtape ‘Free Troy Ave’

By Hayden Wright

While awaiting his criminal trial, Brooklyn Rapper Troy Ave has taken some time to make changes to his debut mixtape, including renaming it from Real vs. Fake to Free Troy Ave. Ave recently plead not guilty to attempted murder following a backstage altercation last month at a T.I. concert in New York that killed one and injured three.

As for the revised mixtape, don’t expect an update of Snoop Dogg’s 1994 release Murder Was the Case. “The music is the music,” Ave’s manager Hovain Hylton told the New York Daily News. “The mixtape was scheduled to come out before any of the other things happened, and the only thing that changed is the title.”

The mixtape has already drawn criticism for its violent, gangsta-plugging content. Ronald McPhatter, the bodyguard who was killed in New York shooting, was buried the day before the mixtape debuted.
