DJ Khaled came through WPGC on Wednesday to share the “major keys” to his incredible success, from using “fan love” as inspiration for his new music to loving the way he looks.
“Major Key” is Khaled’s latest album — dropping Friday, July 29 — and it features every big name in hip-hop today. Drake, Jay Z, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Future, Wale, Bryson Tiller, Nas, Big Sean, and more appear on “Major Key.”
How does Khaled attract such big talent to his projects? “When I present good music to great artists…they love that,” he told DJ Flexx. “We come from the bottom together, and we came up together, most of these artists.”
Khaled said every album he’s made has a different inspiration (though “God is the biggest inspiration”).
“Fan love, all my fans out there, is who inspired me to go all out on ‘Major Key’…because the love in them streets is so amazing, when I go out there I just take that energy and go back in the studio with it.”
The producer has been churning out hip-hop hits for years, but you won’t see Khaled stopping anytime soon. “It’s 25 years of blood, sweat and tears…To me, I’m just gettin’ started.”
He said found joy he when he started to “put some energy into DJ Khaled” and “let people in” with Snapchat. His massive audience on social media grew from there.
“When I was on Snapchat, doing my thing, I’m just being me…It’s like an antenna to the world.”

Another “major key” to his success is being healthy. “I’m a chubby dude, but, you know, I love the way I look,” Khaled told Flexx. “It’s about me wanting to be healthy and feel good.”
Flexx also asked the DJ to share his thoughts on the 2016 election.
“This might be the most important election ever to vote,” Khaled said. “My advice is whoever Obama want, make sure you vote for that person, and you know who that is. Don’t play yourself.”
