Kanye West revealed today that his desire to design goods doesn’t just cover apparel, it even includes furniture—Ikea furniture.
During an interview with BBC 1’s Annie Mac, West spoke in the third person as he called out the giant Swedish furniture manufacture for not wanting to work with him saying, “Yo IKEA, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes—I want more products from Ye.” West’s theory as to why Ikea didn’t jump at the chance to work with him was due to his personality, and his run-in with Taylor Swift. He believes the fact that he interrupted Swift’s MTV Video Music Award acceptance speech in 2009 is still held against him. West wants Ikea to just get over it. The fact that he was once “rude,” doesn’t preclude him from being able to make inspiring goods, at least that’s what Ye thinks.
During his phone conversation with Mac, West also spoke of his dream to take what he knows about high fashion and expensive apparel and apply it to affordable wears such as Payless Shoes. He recounted the story of calling Payless’ CEO in an effort to partner with him for shoes made for the masses. West also described his attempt at convincing Adidas to make shoes under $30. “I’m gonna wear it. It’s gonna be the coolest shoe of all.”
