Tommy Ford, who played Tommy on the sitcom “Martin,” has died at the age of 52.
Ford had been in the hospital for a few days according to his wife, and prior to his death was on life support after an aneurysm ruptured his stomach, TMZ has learned.
The actor’s family released a statement about his death through Ford’s agent, saying “on behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. Please respect the privacy of the Ford family during our time of grief.”
Best known for portraying Tommy Strawn, Martin’s level-headed best friend on the popular sitcom that ran from 1992 to 1997, Ford was also a film producer and director. He had just finished his latest project, “Switching Lanes” — a film about young athletes in a segregated town.
Five days ago, Ford shared pictures of his recovery and physical therapy following a knee replacement surgery in September.
He also wrote a series of inspirational children’s books and traveled the country as a motivational speaker.
