After More Than 30 Years in Southeast, an Iconic McDonald’s Closes

There was always more to the South Capitol McDonald’s than Big Macs and fries.

For more than 35 years, it was a hangout and late-night destination after clubs like The Mirage, Chapter 3 and Nations closed for the night. The McDonald’s was one of the first businesses in the neighborhood.

And now, as with the changing landscape of many D.C. neighborhoods, the golden arches at 2 Eye St. SE will be replaced with condos in the new frontier that is Navy Yard.

WPGC’s own Steph Lova and Richie Rich helped send the iconic McDonald’s out in style.

To his loyal customers over the years, Mateos says simply, “Thank you very much; we truly appreciate it.”
